Childhood experiences affect brain development

November 20, 2023

Brains are not born but developed over time based on the interactions the child has with their environment and attachment figures. When the the child has many negative stressful experiences in their early years the brain development stalls and leads to damage. A child’s early years they need a safe and calm environment to be able to learn and take in information around them. If they are constantly stressed or/and have parents who lack connection, the child will struggles to learn and go into trauma responses, such as hyperactivity and zoning out. Often these children have developmental and behavioural problems which in turn are often diagnosed as ADHD and Autism. It is important to know the difference between a neurological disorder and developmental trauma disorder.
